Lyn Collins, Marva Whitney, Vicki Anderson et Martha High sont toutes des divas qui au cours de leurs carrières ont été, à un moment, associées à James Brown. Rencontre avec l'une d'entre elles... Martha High.

#1 Qu'est-ce qui t'a motivé à faire cet "Hommage aux Soul Sisters" (Cf : Tribute to my Soul Sisters)

M.H: Ma motivation a été le talent de chacune d'elles et mon admiration à savoir, que la plupart de ces dames soulful ont établi avant moi, un niveau sur scène. Il fallait être charismatique et savoir tenir une foule et chacune d'entre elles savait le faire. Je me sens, je suis une part d'elles et je voulais faire savoir à ces Soul Sisters, combien je les admirais.

#2 Comment s'est passé ta première rencontre avec Osaka Monaurail?

 On pourrait dire que c'était par le groupe de James Brown, pendant les années soixante. Le groupe d'Osaka a joué avec eux pendant 4 ans et je me disais qu'ils étaient le groupe le plus funky pour jouer cette période de la musique, donc nous avons collaboré et nous sommes là !

#3 A part Osaka Monaurail, a qui d'autre as-tu fait appel pour cet album?

 Je suis très fier d'annoncer que DJ Pari de Richmond Va., est le co-producteur de mon album et qu'il est maintenant le leader d'Infamous Group. Il y aussi The Impression ainsi que Sir Joe Quarterman, chanteur / compositeur, qui a écrit une de mes chansons intitulée "Oh What a Feeling"!

#4 Tu as partagé la scène avec les plus grands (Prince, Stevie, James, Jerry Lee Lewis, Temptations ... la liste est longue). Quelle anecdote gardes-tu en particulier concernant l'un d'entre eux?

  J'ai appris de toutes ces icônes... c'est de "l'entertainment"... il faut savoir profiter.

#5 Charles Bradley et Sharon Jones nous ont quittés récemment, avez-vous eu l'occasion de les rencontrer ou de jouer avec eux?

 Je l'ai rencontré Sharon Jones! c'était en tournée avec Maceo Parker. j'ai eu le plaisir de m'asseoir, discuter, partager la même scène, partager le même vestiaire avec elle, pendant toute la durée où nous avons fêté l'anniversaire de "The Godfather of Soul" sur scène.

Le lendemain, nous avons passé un moment fantastique dans ce fabuleux restaurant de fruits de mer, le «DeShawn's Seafood Restaurant» en Caroline du Sud. Ça était un honneur de la rencontrer.

#1 What motivated you to do this "Tribute to Soul Sisters"

M.H : My motivation was there individual talent and my admiration of knowing, most of these soulful ladies before me, set standards on his stage. You had to be powerful and know how to hold a crowd and every last one of them could. I feel, I'm apart of them, and I wanted to let my soul sister's know, how  much I, admired them.

#2 How does the meeting with Osaka Monaurail is it done?

 You would think this was the James Brown band, during the sixties. The Osaka Monaurail band, Marva played with them for 4 years and I thought they were the funkiest band to play that era of music, so we collaborated and here we are!

#3 Except for Osaka, who else did you do to make this album? 

 I'm very proud to say, that DJ Pari from Richmond Va., is the co- producer of my album and he is, now the manager of the infamous group, the  Impression, also Sir Joe Quarterman, the singer/songwriter, wrote one of my songs titled, "Oh What a Feeling" !

#4 You shared the stage with the biggest (Prince, Stevie, James, Jerry Lee Lewis, Temptations... the list is long). What anecdote do you keep in particular concerning one of them?

  I've learned from all of these icons.., that is... to "Entertain !" you must know what it takes !

#5 Charles Bradley and Sharon Jones left us recently, had you the opportunity to meet or play with them?

 I certainly did, that was meeting Sharon Jones ! I met her while touring with Maceo Parker. Later having the pleasure to sit down and chat, share the same stage, share the same dressing room, during the time we celebrated, "The Godfather of Soul" birthday bash. The next day, we had a fantastic time, at this fabulous seafood Restaurant, which was 'DeShawn's Seafood Restaurant " in South Carolina. It was such honor to meet her  .
